a critical piece against distracted driving

More recently in 2021, there were 3,522 traffic related deaths reported that were caused by a distracted driver. As an addition, 1 in 5 of people killed in distracted driving related accidents, meaning 20% of the above numbers, aren’t actually in a vehicle, but could be pedestrains, cyclists, or anyone else outside the vehicle(s).
From a survey that I conducted, I found that 60.7% of survey participants admitted to being most distracted by their mobile devices.
This was followed in second place by a distraction outside of the vehicle (an accident, another driver, a pedestrian, etc.), and in third place by other passengers.
A similar push for driver safety occured in the form of seat belts in the 1980’s, which was met with resistance from auto manufacturers and the common man as well.
In 1984, however, pushback from Secretary of Transportation Elizabeth Dole and a lawsuit from insurance companies led to seat belts becoming mandatory, today being one of the most effective safety features ever introduced.
